(BBE) the natural gas supply arm of the Clarke-Mobile Counties Gas District (CMC), was formed in 2008 by the City of Jackson, AL, the City of Thomasville, AL and the Town of Grovehill, AL under Act No 762, Alabama 1951, and the “Gas District Act” and is a municipally owned corporation.
BBE issued $523 Million in revenue bonds to purchase the gas supply from Royal Bank of Canada. CMC will purchase approximately 4,000 MMBtu per day from BBE for its system customers. The bonds are non-recourse to CMC or the member municipalities. They are backed by the credit of RBC. They were purchased by mutual funds for their tax-exempt bond portfolios.
BBE is a joint action gas supply agency formed for the purpose of acquiring reliable and competitively priced long-term supplies of gas for delivery to residential, commercial, institutional and industrial customers in and around the areas served by CMC. The acquisition of gas through prepayments is an important economic development tool for Clarke County, AL and the Black Belt region. Gas prepayments bring delivered gas at below market prices.
